Steele (1903-1992), an American journalist who served as a foreign newspaper correspondent in China, Southeast Asia, Africa, South and Central America from 1932-1960. De Es was born in 1942 in Gresten, Lower-Austria as Dieter Schwertberger, the second son of two teachers. Intelligence has been commonly identified with the intelligence quotient (IQ) obtained on an intelligence test. During World War II and through the 1950s the number of abilities measured was expanded to include such constructs as verbal and quantitative ability, technical knowledge, and psychomotor abilities, the latter being particularly important for pilot and navigator selection. His indebtedness to the Record, moreover, is greater in one sense than is suggested by the total of twenty poems out of seventy-two, for most of the fifty-two poems not indebted to the Record are largely philosophical, eulogistic, or inscriptive.
